Second-Generation BYD Seagull May Feature 300 kW Flash Charging in 9 Minutes
Reports suggest the second-generation BYD Seagull may support BYD's Flash Charging technology, enabling battery charging from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes. The vehicle is expected to feature Blade Battery 2.0 packs with capacities of 30 and 39.2 kWh, with charging power reaching up to 300 kW.
Recent spy photographs of the second-generation BYD Seagull captured the vehicle positioned in front of a Flash Charging station mockup, suggesting the company plans to equip the hatchback with this rapid-charging technology. Flash Charging promises exceptional performance: 5 minutes from 10% to 70% state of charge, 9 minutes from 10% to 97%, while maintaining near-identical speeds even at -30°C.
The new Seagull will feature LFP battery options with capacities of 30 and 39.2 kWh, delivering WLTP ranges of approximately 259 and 340 kilometres respectively. Flash Charging capability is expected to be reserved for higher trim levels, potentially achieving average charging power of 282 kW, equivalent to 7C charging rates, with instantaneous peak power exceeding 300 kW at the session start.
The redesigned model increases in overall dimensions to 4205/1810/1570 mm with a 2650 mm wheelbase, accommodating five passengers instead of four. The single front motor output rises to 95 kW (127 hp), a 40 kW improvement over the current generation's top specification. Maximum speed reaches 150 km/h.
Higher-specification versions are anticipated to feature the roof-mounted LiDAR-equipped DiPilot 300 assisted driving system. BYD has announced a 2026 launch date in China, with market analysts predicting the second-generation Seagull will surpass the current model's 69,900–85,900 yuan price bracket. The vehicle could become BYD's first Flash Charging-equipped model positioned below the 100,000 yuan (15,000 USD) threshold.
