BYD Unveils First Official Images of Larger Seagull Electric Hatchback

Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean series sales division, released a series of official design sketches for the second-generation Seagull. The sketches were accompanied by messaging emphasizing the preservation of classic design elements while introducing new expressions, with reshaped lines and refreshed surfaces. The renderings reveal new trident-shaped front and rear lighting and a dynamic updated appearance for the vehicle.

According to regulatory filings from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new model will measure 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. This represents a significant increase from the current Seagull's 3,780 mm length. The vehicle will also gain a more powerful 95 kW (127 hp) electric motor, compared to the existing 55 kW (75 hp) unit.

Official interior images reveal a two-spoke steering wheel design with dual control knobs per side. The infotainment display appears enlarged, though traditional instrument cluster visibility is reduced in the imagery. A row of physical buttons sits below the center air vents, maintaining the cabin's minimalist aesthetic. Wireless phone charging and dual cupholders between seats are retained from the current generation.

BYD has indicated the second-generation model will incorporate its second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging technology. Recent undisguised spy photography revealed a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, suggesting an upgraded advanced driver assistance system. The new Seagull, branded as the Great Seagull, is scheduled for market introduction by the end of 2026, with potential availability in overseas markets including Europe under the Dolphin Surf nameplate.
